1 year ago, BJB worked with Alfred Enderby to supply a truck that suits their day-to-day needs and will continue to do so for many years to come. We decided to catch up with them to see how the truck is treating them.
Alfred Enderby, founded in 1961, are a multi award winning fish smokers based at the heart of Grimsby Docks.
During the ‘Cod Wars’ of the 1970s, which saw many businesses fold under the uncertainty of the UK fishing trade, Alfred Enderby thrived by experimenting with different fish species.
Following the commotion of the ‘Cod Wars’, fish supplies began to improve and became more available, prompting George Enderby, Alfred’s son, to perfect the art of the traditional smoking of salmon; this was a turning point for Alfred Enderby, who have smoked salmon successfully ever since.
Through the subsequent rise and fall of the UK fishing trade, Alfred Enderby continued to go from strength to strength, and in 2009, were awarded with PGI, Protected Geographical Indication, status for their Grimsby Traditional Smoked Haddock; going on further to win runner-up for Best Individual Product in 2014 at the Slow Food London Awards. Alfred Enderby also won Producer of the Year in the 2017 Lincolnshire Life Magazine Taste of Excellence Awards, and two Great Taste Awards from the Guild of Fine Food.
After a long 42-year career, Richard Enderby called time on his reign, and passed the baton to a loyal friend of the company, Patrick Salmon, who remains at the heart of operations today, with the help of his lovely wife Toni. Patrick and Toni pride themselves on producing the best value and service with their products, and their reputation speaks for itself.
The traditional firing process that Alfred Enderby use, compared to new electric kilns, takes longer, but the result is beautiful traditionally smoked fish fit for the stars, and with customers such as Marco Pierre White and Elizabeth Hurley, it is exactly that!
BJB are delighted to have been able to work with a business who has such a strong heritage in the local area, which is a key focus of BJB. Sales Director, Ian Roden, is quoted as saying “One of the true delights of our business here at BJB Lift Trucks are the opportunities to visit our customers and really see how their passion and tangible enthusiasm results in a superb quality product for their customers in turn. At Alfred Enderby, through Patrick and his amazing team, you will find no finer example of what can be achieved through hard work, a real love for what you do, and a steadfast focus on delivering the best you can for those around you. We have a great deal to be proud of in this wonderful town of Great Grimsby!”.
Alfred Enderby owner, Patrick Salmon said “It’s a huge transformation for our company to have this truck. we have gone from lifting multiple 3kg boxes at a time to load/unload the lorry, to being able to use the forklift, the guys love it!”
We look forward to a very long and happy relationship between BJB Lift Trucks and Alfred Enderby.
